Have you ever wondered how the architecture that surrounds us shapes our mood and mental states?
Whether it's our homes, workplaces, or the places we visit, the built environment is a huge part of our daily lives. Researchers in psychology and neuroscience are starting to study the factors that influence how we feel in an architectural space. How easy it is to understand what we're seeing, how interesting it is, and how comfortable we feel, seem to be key factors that affect our architectural experiences. These pioneering studies raise the question: how our minds are shaped by our surroundings?
We will use the following papers as a guide for our thoughtful discussion:
The neuroaesthetics of architectural spaces by Chatterjee, Coburn & Weinberger.
Effects of expertise on psychological responses to buildings and natural landscapes, by Weinberger and collegues.
